Pineville, LA (1/29/2024) – The somber aftermath of a boating accident in Vernon Parish has revealed the identity of the victim as 42-year-old Derek “Dee” Green from Pineville, according to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft.
Dee, a familiar and beloved figure among family and friends, found himself in the midst of the tragic incident while on a boat with two children. The heartbreaking turn of events occurred when he fell overboard during the outing.
In a testament to the quick thinking of those on the boat, the oldest child managed to alert Dee’s friend, who was also present on the lake. With swift coordination, the friend located the vessel, marked the precise location on his cell phone where Dee went overboard, and aided in rescue efforts.
Following the incident, the friend safely brought the vessel and the children back to shore. Unfortunately, it was revealed that Dee did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
Expressing collective grief, Precision Tune auto care shared on Facebook, “Sadly we lost one of our own over the weekend. A boating accident took the life of Dee Green. Dee was our manager, and a kind and loyal friend to all of us at the store. We offer condolences to his family and friends. He is deeply missed by all.”
Dee had been a dedicated employee of Precision Tune for an impressive 23 years, earning the admiration of his co-workers. Described as an invaluable asset to the company and a joy to work with, Derek “Dee” Green’s passing leaves a profound void in both his workplace and the hearts of those who knew him.
