A pedestrian killed in Iberia Parish crash early Saturday morning has been identified as 24-year-old Katlin Khayankane of New Iberia.
Louisiana State Police Troop I reported the fatal incident occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. on March 21, 2026.
Troopers responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 90 Frontage Road near Grand Prairie Road. Investigators said Khayankane was walking in an unknown direction in the westbound lane. At the same time, a 2014 Ford F-150 traveled west on the same roadway.
For reasons still under investigation, the truck struck Khayankane, who was wearing dark clothing in the roadway. As a result, she suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford was properly restrained and reported no injuries.
Authorities do not suspect impairment as a factor in the crash. However, troopers collected routine toxicology samples for further analysis. The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the exact circumstances.
State Police urge both pedestrians and drivers to remain alert at all times. In addition, pedestrians should use well-lit intersections and wear reflective clothing when walking near traffic. These safety measures can help prevent similar tragedies on Louisiana roadways.
