Parish inmate dies following an apparent suicide attempt in a Natchitoches Parish Jail

Natchitoches – A parish inmate dies in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center from injuries sustained when he hung himself. The incident occurred in his cell over the weekend, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

On Saturday, October 8, 2022, at approximately 1:00 pm, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies and other first responders responded to a medical emergency. The emergency involved an inmate at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on Edwina Drive in Natchitoches, La.

Responding units arrived at the detention center within minutes, finding corrections bureau deputies performing CPR efforts on a parish jail inmate who hung himself in his cell.

Timothy J. Gourdon, 50, of Winnfield was transported by ambulance to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Major Roger Henson of the NPSO Corrections Bureau said Corrections Deputies found Gourdon in his cell while making inmate check rounds. Gordon apparently hung himself with the use of a bed sheet.

Henson said Gourdon remained in the intensive care unit of Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022.

The body has been transported to Shreveport for an autopsy according to Natchitoches Parish Asst. Coroner Steven Clanton.

Gourdon was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on October 5, 2022. Detectives charged Gordon with Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Criminal Damage to Property.

Bond was later set by a 10th Judicial District Judge at $10,000.00.

Detectives are still in the process of investigating the unfortunate incident and at this point no foul play is suspected.

Detectives are awaiting the final conclusion of the autopsy report.
