Opelousas: Attorney Laura Marler was arrested on narcotics and weapons violation

Opelousas, LA (5/15/2023) – Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz states, “Laura Marler” is a licensed practicing attorney in St. Landry Parish.

On May 12, 2023, narcotics detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office discovered that Laura Marler was doing more than practicing law. After conducting a traffic stop on a Nissan Altima in the St. Landry Parish area, contact was made with the driver, identified as Laura Marler.

During the traffic stop, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and detectives located 50 T.H.C. cartridges. Furthering their investigation, detectives went to Laura Marler’s residence located in Opelousas, where they received permission to search after Laura Marler admitted that she had additional T.H.C. cartridges at her residence.

During a search of Marler’s residence, detectives located 170 additional T.H.C. cartridges, multiple bags containing marijuana, multiple bottles of T.H.C wax, $19,320.00 in US Currency along with 15 guns which included four assault-style rifles, six shotguns, four semi-automatic handguns, and one .50 caliber black powder rifle.

The estimated street value of illegal narcotics located is valued at $8,800.00.

On May 13, 2023, Laura Marler was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (THC cartridges) (2 counts), possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (THC wax), possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (THC dosed oral spray), illegal carrying of weapons; crime or CDS (15 counts) and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses. Laura Marler’s bond was set at $90,000.00 and she has bonded out at the time of this news release.

This investigation remains open and further arrests are pending in the near future.
