One Arrested, Two Wanted in Cypress Street Homicide of 12-Year-Old Hope Alexandria Coleman

Alexandria, LA (9/18/2024) – The Alexandria Police Department has arrested one suspect and is actively searching for two others in connection with the homicide on Cypress Street that claimed the life of 12-year-old Hope Alexandria Coleman.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 38-year-old Kayla Wooten was taken into custody and charged with Second Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property. Hope’s father was also injured during the shooting.

While Wooten has been arrested, two additional suspects remain at large. The Alexandria Police Department is seeking 32-year-old Latraykus May and 31-year-old Deroyce May II. Latraykus May is described as 5’7″, 160 pounds, and Deroyce May II as 5’5″, 120 pounds. Both men are considered armed and dangerous, and authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could lead to their capture.

The homicide on Cypress Street has deeply impacted the community. Hope Alexandria Coleman’s family, still in shock, has set up a GoFundMe to assist with shelter and food expenses. Donations to support the family can be made at Support for Hope Alexandria’s Final Farewell.

The Alexandria Police Department, with the help of the Louisiana State Police, is continuing the investigation.
