Omega Psi Phi National Achievement Week Celebrates Community Impact and Excellence

Alexandria, LA (11/15/2024) – Omega Psi Phi National Achievement Week highlights the fraternity’s commitment to honoring individuals and advancing community service.

The Epsilon Chi Chapter is hosting a series of events to celebrate this impactful week, which recognizes outstanding contributions in various fields.

Achievement Week was established in 1920 to promote the study of African American life and history. The fraternity’s mission remains relevant today, as members adapt to meet the needs of an ever-changing world. The theme for this year’s events is, “If Not Now, When? If Not Us, Who?”

Activities include a Talent Hunt, an Essay Contest, and a Community Project Day. The chapter is participating in the Re/Entry Solutions Project for the second consecutive year. Members are donating undergarments and socks to help individuals reenter society with basic essentials, offering young men a fresh start.

On Monday, the fraternity held its Annual Bro. Alvin Rollins Mall Walk, a cherished tradition of health and community engagement. On Tuesday, members partnered with Sigma Gamma Rho for the Annual Founders Day Bowling Event, fostering camaraderie and collaboration between the organizations.

On Sunday, November 17, the chapter will attend worship at Second Bethlehem Baptist Church, where Reverend Rodney McNeal serves as pastor. The service begins at 11 a.m.

The week’s signature event is the Achievement and Scholarship Black Tie Banquet/Ball. Scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 7 p.m., the banquet will be held at the Alexandria Convention Hall. The evening will honor outstanding community leaders in education, business, medicine, community service, religion, and politics. Judge David Williams of the 9th Judicial District Court will serve as the keynote speaker.

Achievement Week also commemorates Omega Psi Phi’s Founders Day, established on November 17, 1911. The fraternity’s ongoing dedication to service reflects the values instilled by its founders over a century ago.
