Neighbor Speaks Out After Mason Street Shooting as Veterans Across Alexandria Compare Gunfire to Military Operations

Alexandria, La. (10/16/2025) – The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a Monday night shooting that left two people injured and deepened concern over the rise in gunfire across Alexandria.

At approximately 7:18 PM on October 13, 2025, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Mason Street after reports of heavy gunfire. When they arrived, officers found two individuals who had been shot and transported to a local hospital. No suspects have been identified, and police have not released a motive. The investigation remains active.

Bullets Strike Home and Vehicle

Just a block from the scene, a resident said she was outside feeding her animals when the gunfire erupted. “At about 7:15 pm, I was in the backyard when 17 gunshots went off,” she said. “They hit my house, my buildings, and my truck. One bullet even came through my bedroom wall, hit my bed, and fell to the floor.”

She described how a neighbor ran toward her home yelling for help, while another person ducked beside her truck as bullets struck it. “It drove me inside fast,” she said. “You don’t have time to think, just move.”

The resident said she has grown increasingly fearful as shootings in the area have become more frequent. “I just wish they’d quit shooting each other,” she said. “You used to see people fight and go home. Now they pick up a gun.”

Veterans Across Alexandria Echo Concern

UrbanCast has spoken with veterans from north, south, and southeast Alexandria who said the sound of gunfire across the city in recent months, including but not limited to the Mason Street area, has often reminded them of military operations they experienced during service.

One veteran said, “The rhythm and precision, it’s like being back on a live range.” Another added, “It’s not just one neighborhood anymore. The gunfire we’re hearing across Alexandria sounds like tactical fire. It brings back memories most of us hoped to leave behind.”

A Desert Storm and Desert Shield veteran described it as “controlled, deliberate, and unnerving,” saying, “You hear bursts, people yelling, then silence. It’s too familiar. It’s not supposed to sound like that here at home.”

Previous Shooting in the Same Area

This latest shooting comes just weeks after another incident at the Chevron gas station located at Fenner and Mason streets on September 13, 2025, during the evening commute.

According to Alexandria Police, the 6:50 p.m. shooting left one person injured and sent drivers and families scrambling for safety. Witnesses told UrbanCast they heard multiple shots as police, fire, and EMS converged on the scene.

“Two shots went off,” one witness recalled. “One male took off and the other grabbed his phone and was hopping around. We were sitting at the light in front of the firehouse. It was scary.” Police have not released suspect information in that case, which remains under investigation.

Residents Call for Action

Residents near Mason, Overton, and Fenner Streets say the problem extends beyond one block. “They drink, curse, and play loud music like it’s a park,” one neighbor said of late-night gatherings near the Chevron. “If property owners don’t enforce trespassing, law enforcement can’t act.”

Several residents also expressed frustration about what they see as a lack of available patrol officers. “They come when they can, but they’re stretched thin,” one resident said. “You can tell they’re doing all they can with what they’ve got.”

City Officials Contacted for Comment

UrbanCast reached out to the City of Alexandria’s Administration and cc’d members of the City Council seeking comment on this latest shooting and the broader rise in violent crime across the city. As of publication, no response has been received.
