Natchitoches, LA (5/15/2023) – Natchitoches Police Department (NPD) reported the investigation of drowning in Cane River.
On May 14, 2023, around 1:31 a.m., officers with the Natchitoches Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Jefferson Street about a possible drowning in the Cane River.
Upon NPD Officers’ arrival, officers contacted several witnesses who said that one of their friends was attempting to swim across Cane River, and they lost sight of him in the water. Officers on the scene contacted the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the Natchitoches Fire Department to conduct a search and rescue mission.
After a thorough search of the river, Zachory Lane Rice, 21, of Zwolle, Louisiana, was located in Cane River and was pronounced deceased by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office
This investigation is ongoing and the Natchitoches Police Department will release more details as they become available.
