Natchez, LA – (3/3/2024) – The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives are actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that occurred on Saturday evening in Natchez, resulting in the loss of life for one individual and injuries to several others.
According to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright, the incident occurred around 10:20 pm on March 2, 2024, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire near an apartment complex on La. Hwy 119 in Natchez, Louisiana. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a vehicle in a ditch adjacent to the complex, with two individuals inside suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The chaotic scene prompted deputies to render immediate aid to the victims while awaiting the arrival of medical assistance. Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS Units and law enforcement personnel responded to the scene to provide support.
In the aftermath, it was revealed that three individuals, along with a passenger, were in a 2010 Lincoln MKZ attempting to depart the apartment complex when they were targeted by one or more unknown assailants. Gunfire erupted, striking the occupants and causing the vehicle to crash into a nearby ditch.
Tragically, 19-year-old Cameron D. Jackson, a resident of Natchitoches, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a regional trauma center. Another Natchitoches man, aged 23, sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds, while an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old, both from Natchitoches, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Natchitoches Parish Coroner Steven Clanton confirmed that Mr. Jackson’s body will undergo an autopsy for further investigation.
The extensive crime scene was processed by detectives, who collected over 60 bullet casings as evidence. Specialized crime scene lighting equipment was employed until the early hours of Sunday morning to ensure thorough documentation.
Sheriff Wright emphasized that the investigation remains active and urged anyone with information or footage related to the incident to come forward.
