Pineville, LA (8/28/2024) – On August 28, 2024, at around 2:30 PM, Pineville Police officers, along with the Pineville Fire Department and an ambulance service, responded to a shooting at 208 Lee Street.
First responders discovered 20-year-old Jacquez Burks of Pineville suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The incident escalated from a dispute between two half-brothers. During the altercation, one of them produced a gun and shot Burks once. Thanks to quick and effective police work, authorities arrested the suspect, Steven Bush from Natchitoches, LA, within two hours of being notified. Bush now faces charges of Second Degree Murder and Obstruction of Justice. He is currently held at the Rapides Parish Detention Center on a $1,025,000 bond.
Pineville Police Chief Darrell Basco emphasized the seriousness of gun violence, urging the community to report such incidents immediately. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to addressing these threats through strong enforcement and community engagement.
