Natchitoches: Man avoids serious injury in a single-vehicle crash on I-49

Cloutierville, LA (9/3/2023) – A Baton Rouge man avoided serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 49 south of Cloutierville on Saturday morning, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 8:40 am on Saturday, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Louisiana State Police, Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #1 First Responders, and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of a single-vehicle crash on I-49 near milepost #116 south of Cloutierville involving an overturned vehicle.

Units arrived on the scene finding the vehicle’s sole occupant suffering from minor non-life-threatening injuries.

According to preliminary reports from LSP, a 25-year-old Baton Rouge man operating a 2012 Dodge Avenger was traveling southbound on Interstate-49 near milepost #116 south of the Cloutierville/Derry exit when he apparently fell asleep. This action caused the vehicle to exit the road on the right side, traveling down an embankment. The operator then overcorrected to the left causing the vehicle to overturn, coming to a rest on its right side near a tree line.

The driver was properly restrained in the vehicle and received only minor non-life-threatening injuries. He was assessed at the scene, treated, and released without transport to a medical facility.

According to NPSO, LSP Troop E investigated the crash.

NPSO Deputies remind motorists during this Labor Day weekend and every day to always use their seat belts including properly restraining their children in your vehicle. Seat Belt use, as in this crash significantly reduces your chances of injury or even death in traffic crashes.
