Mississippi Ambulance Driver Killed in St. Tammany Parish Crash, LSP says

Slidell, LA (1/1/2023) – According to Louisiana State Police, shortly before 1:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near LA Hwy 1090 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old John Crow of Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Crow was westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2021 Chevrolet Ambulance. At the same time, a 2020 Volvo Straight Box Truck was also westbound on Interstate 10 directly in front of the Ambulance. For reasons still under investigation, the Ambulance struck the rear of the Volvo in the left lane.

Despite Crow being properly restrained, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Volvo was properly restrained and sustained no injuries. Two passengers in the Ambulance sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to a local hospital. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

Although the factors of this crash remain under investigation, there were a total of 16 vehicles that were involved in several separate crashes along I-10 in Slidell last night and early this morning. There was very dense fog throughout southeast Louisiana last night and this morning. Troopers wish to remind all drivers that dangers can arise from activity on or around our highways. Be sure to keep in mind the roadway conditions while you travel. Darkness, rain, and fog on the roadways can greatly reduce visibility and cause crashes. Motorists should always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted. Follow all traffic laws and ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Not all crashes are survivable, but taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
