Alexandria, La (10/25/2022) – Peabody Magnet High School Mentoring Monday program brings in people from within the community who are making an impact. The primary objective is to discuss life and motivate its students to become productive members of society.
The thought process behind starting this program was that the streets have a hold on so many kids. It is an uphill battle with the streets for the kids. But those kids who are still coming to school, still hoping for success, can be driven. They can be motivated to succeed while they are in school.
Principal Stewart said, ”we try our best to exhaust every avenue to save as many students as possible who attends Peabody…we are genuinely trying our best to create a haven…we are not perfect. We don’t have all the answers but what we do is try our best to meet our kids where they are.”
As the program kicked off yesterday, Judge David Williams was the first mentor to speak with the kids this year. As an Alexandria kid, he represents what hard work and dedication can result in. It was good for the kids to see one of their native sons. It shows them what success looks like and what it takes to reach your goals!
Everybody has a part to play in the success of our kids and our city. Sometimes you have to think outside the box and get to the message of success where those who need to hear it can. This program at Peabody is just that. Outside the box, thinking to create a pathway to success for our kids. One kid saved by this program is a win; you save several kids; it is a movement. We start to get some numbers on the board in the battle for our children and their future.
