LSP UPDATE: DeSoto Parish Train Derailment Haz-Mat Evacuation

Keatchie, LA (1/29/2023) – Lousiana State Police Emergency Services Unit, DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, DeSoto Parish Fire, and several crews are still on scene in the area of LA Hwy 5 and Depot Road. Crews have been working diligently to assess the current conditions in the affected area so they can restore travel and allow residents back into their homes.

The two rail cars that released chemicals have since been contained. Technicians have been monitoring air quality throughout the duration of this incident. They determined the levels have been deemed low enough not to pose a serious threat to the public. As of 6:00 p.m., it has been determined that there is no detection of levels of concern outside of the main area of focus.
