LEESVILLE, La. (2/3/2025) – A Leesville man was arrested after being found in possession of homemade explosive devices following a high-speed chase on January 31, 2025.
William Anthony Bass, 50, was apprehended by the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force after fleeing a traffic stop on Graham Road.
Agents attempted to stop Bass for speeding at approximately 11 a.m., but he refused to comply and led officers on a pursuit. The chase spanned multiple roads before ending at a dead end on Audry Lane. Bass exited his vehicle and resisted arrest, challenging officers before fleeing on foot. After a brief pursuit, agents apprehended Bass, during which he bit one of the officers.
A pat-down search revealed a firearm and two homemade explosive devices on Bass. Additional incendiary devices were discovered in his vehicle, prompting involvement from the ATF, FBI, Louisiana State Police, and other agencies. A search warrant executed at Bass’ residence on Hazel Jeane Road uncovered numerous materials used to manufacture bombs.
Bass faces multiple charges, including manufacturing and possession of a bomb, resisting arrest, and battery of a police officer. Sheriff Sam Craft commended the diligence of the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force and thanked all agencies involved in safely collecting and disposing of the explosives.
Bass remains in custody at the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office jail with bond yet to be set.
