Lake Charles, LA (8/14/2024) – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported a CPSO Deputy was arrested and terminated. CPSO acted swiftly earlier this week upon receiving a tip about possible contraband smuggling by one of their own. Detectives immediately launched an investigation into the allegations.
They discovered that CPSO Deputy Christopher T. Ryan, 28, from Lake Charles, had been bringing contraband into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He reportedly accepted payments from inmates in exchange for smuggling these illegal items.
On August 13, after interviewing Ryan, authorities arrested him. He now faces charges of malfeasance in office and introducing contraband into a penal institution. Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $150,000.
Sheriff Stitch Guillory emphasized the severity of the breach. “We treat such accusations with utmost seriousness and respond promptly,” Guillory stated. “Criminal actions by deputies are unacceptable. They betray our trust and compromise the security of everyone involved.”
Ryan, who had served as a correctional deputy, was terminated following the arrest. He had been with the department for just one year.
Detective Sabrina Hays of the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force is leading the ongoing investigation. The focus now is to identify the specific contraband introduced and to ensure no other individuals are involved.
CPSO encourages anyone with information about this case to contact them at (337) 491-3600. Remember, an arrest does not imply guilt; every individual is considered innocent until proven guilty.
