Lafayette, LA (4/10/2023) – The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) requested Louisiana State Police (LSP) to investigate a shooting incident involving one of their officers. Detectives assigned to the LSP Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident.
At approximately 10:45 p.m. on April 9, 2023, Lafayette Police responded to shots fired at the LaBamba nightclub in the 4400 block of Johnston Street. A responding officer working a security detail at that nightclub discharged his weapon. One subject was shot by an officer and sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The officer was not injured.
Lafayette Police are investigating the initial shooting incident, and Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency for the officer-involved shooting.
