STATE: Joint Investigation Results in Arrest of Human Trafficker and Rescue of Victims

Terrebonne Parish, LA (1/24/2024) – In a collaborative effort, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) sought assistance from the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit – Houma Field Office (LSP SVU) in a human trafficking investigation, leading to the arrest of 29-year-old Henrys Suarez of Houma.

The investigation unfolded when a human trafficking victim reached out to the Houma Police Department and TPSO, reporting that Suarez compelled them to engage in commercial sex acts with unknown individuals in Jefferson Parish. LSP SVU investigators, working in coordination, arranged a meeting with another victim in Jefferson Parish, negotiating a price for sexual services.

As personnel from Homeland Security Investigations – Houma Field Office and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office supported the operation, they observed Suarez’s vehicle near the meeting location. A subsequent traffic stop ensued, during which Suarez attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly thereafter. A second trafficking victim, accompanying Suarez, was safely recovered.

Charges of one count of human trafficking and one count of pandering were filed against Suarez, who was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

Human trafficking, a crime exploiting vulnerable individuals, underscores the importance of collaborative efforts across agencies. Joint investigations, such as this one, enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of addressing such heinous activities. If you encounter or have information about human trafficking, please contact the Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or use the LSP (577) hotline. Reporting can play a crucial role in combating this pervasive crime and ensuring the safety of victims.
