Rosepine, LA (5/21/2024) — A 911 call was received at approximately 1:50 a.m. reporting a violent home invasion on Ikes Road in Rosepine. The caller, a female, indicated that a male intruder had broken into the residence, stabbed her, and injured another person.
Deputies from the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) and officers from the Rosepine Police Department arrived at the scene. They found a female suffering from a stab wound, a male with a life-threatening laceration, and another male deceased from a gunshot wound.
Upon further investigation, detectives learned that the injured female had been staying at the residence of acquaintances to avoid her estranged boyfriend, Lavelle Tommy Tullis, age 47, of Boyce. Tullis allegedly broke into the home through a window during the night and physically assaulted his estranged girlfriend in front of her children.
Two additional adults were present in the home at the time. When the male homeowner attempted to intervene, Tullis inflicted a severe wound on him. Despite his injuries, the homeowner managed to retreat to another room, where he armed himself. As Tullis tried to forcefully enter the room, he was shot by the homeowner.
The male victim was transported by life flight to a medical facility in Lake Charles, and his condition remains unknown at this time. The female victim was treated at a local medical facility and has since been released.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic altercation.
