Infant’s Death Leads to Arrests in Pineville Child Abuse Case

Pineville, LA (May 22, 2024) – Patrol deputies with the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a local hospital following a report of possible child abuse involving a three-month-old infant from Pineville.

Upon their arrival, they were briefed by a representative from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), who confirmed that the infant was hospitalized with injuries indicative of Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Deputies initiated the investigation with an initial report, and detectives from the Sheriff’s office were called in to take over the case. During their time at the hospital, the infant’s mother and another individual were detained and taken to the Criminal Investigation Division for further questioning.

Detectives gathered sufficient evidence to arrest the infant’s mother, Jyrionne Meshaun Crosby, 23, of Pineville, on charges of Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles. Additionally, Crosby’s boyfriend, Adrian Christopher-Tobias Augustine, was also arrested on the same charges.

Tragically, the infant succumbed to the injuries sustained. Following the child’s death, detectives continued their investigation, which led to Augustine being re-arrested on a charge of Second Degree Murder.

Both Crosby and Augustine are currently in custody. Crosby is held on a $5,000 bond, while Augustine’s bond is set at $1,050,000.

The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Matt Dauzat at the Criminal Investigation Division, Kolin Substation, at 318-542-4409.
