GRANT PARISH, La. (2/14/2025) – ICE assisted in the arrest of two Colorado men for smuggling drugs into a federal prison following an investigation by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Jose Francisco Herrera Munoz, 18, and Angel Gonzales Gutierrez, 19, both from Greely, Colorado, attempted to introduce $112,000 worth of tobacco and $89,500 worth of methamphetamine into the facility.
They planned to use a compressed-air cannon to launch contraband over the security fence, which had a range of over 350 feet.
Both suspects face charges of Attempting to Introduce Contraband into a Penal Institution and Attempting to Distribute Methamphetamine. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assisted in the investigation and placed a detainer on Munoz, confirming his illegal status in the country.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and are determining whether additional individuals were involved in the smuggling attempt.
