Baton Rouge, LA (2/18/2024) – The Holy Savior Menard Lady Eagles have soared to victory, clinching the Division II state championship in indoor track and field at the Carl Maddox Field House on LSU’s Campus Indoor Track. With exceptional performances across multiple events, the Lady Eagles showcased their talent, determination, and academic excellence on the grand stage.
Leading the charge were A’Shyria Burns and Cami Harrison, both of whom maintain a remarkable 4.0 GPA alongside their athletic achievements. Burns, in particular, had a standout day, securing an impressive trifecta of champion titles.
In the 60m hurdles, Burns displayed her speed and agility, clinching her third champion title of the day with a swift run of 9.19 seconds. Meanwhile, Harrison, though finishing 8th, achieved a personal record in the preliminaries with a time of 9.98 seconds, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Continuing her dominance, Burns secured her second state championship of the day in the triple jump, setting a new school record with a remarkable leap of 37’3″. Harrison also delivered a commendable performance, finishing 5th with a jump of 32’8″.
In the long jump event, Burns once again emerged victorious with a jump of 18’8″, further solidifying her status as a standout athlete. Harrison showcased her talent with a 5th place finish and a new personal record of 16’4″.
Harrison continued to shine in the pole vault, claiming victory with a personal record vault of 10’10”. Olivia Marcantel also made her mark, finishing 7th with a personal record vault of 9’6″.
Carly Maynard added to the team’s success by setting a new school record in the shot put event with a throw of 31’3.5”, securing a commendable 7th place finish in her first state indoor meet.
