Alexandria, LA (12/20/25) — The Alexandria Police Department released new details regarding a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist on MacArthur Drive.
Police say officers responded Friday, December 19, 2025, around 6:25 p.m. to the 1200 block of MacArthur Drive.
The bicyclist attempted to cross the roadway when a vehicle struck him.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to a local hospital in critical condition.
Family members later identified him as Darruis Deshawn Dunbar.
He remains in the ICU and continues to fight for his life.
Earlier reports from the community began around 6:35 p.m., shortly after the crash occurred.
Additionally, the family described the incident as a hit-and-run from the beginning.
The family also expressed gratitude to private citizens who stopped to help at the scene.
They say the community saw those actions and deeply appreciates the compassion shown.
According to APD, investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a 2013–2015 Honda Accord.
The vehicle is dark gray or charcoal in color.
It likely has significant front-left bumper damage.
Police say the driver-side mirror and fog light are missing.
Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing.
Police continue searching for the suspect vehicle and driver.
