Campti, LA (2/2/2024) – Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance following a hit-and-run incident in Campti that resulted in a pedestrian sustaining life-threatening injuries, as stated by Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
On Friday afternoon, February 2, 2024, at approximately 3:18 pm, deputies from the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau, along with Campti Police and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS, responded to reports from the NATCOM 911 Center regarding a hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian on US-71 near Campti Bayou Road in Campti, LA.
Upon arrival, deputies found a male lying on the shoulder of the road with apparent life-threatening injuries.
The victim, a 27-year-old Natchitoches man, was promptly transported by EMS to Natchitoches Regional Airport and airlifted to a regional trauma center for treatment.
According to detectives, the investigation is in its preliminary stages. Witnesses and sources have reported that a dark blue or black Chevrolet HHR was traveling southbound on US-71 in Campti when it veered onto the southbound shoulder, striking the pedestrian. The vehicle then fled the scene, potentially heading southbound or northbound after the collision.
Deputies suspect the vehicle sustained damage to the right roof area, windshield, and possibly the hood and front end.
As of 6:00 pm, detectives were actively processing the crime scene, gathering evidence, and searching for any clues that could aid in the investigation. Additionally, other deputies were conducting searches in the Campti area in pursuit of the vehicle.
