Rapides Parish, La. (7/28/2025) — A tragic crash on U.S. Highway 71 at Bill Warner Road claimed the life of 29-year-old Michael Dauzat Jr. of Hessmer, according to Louisiana State Police Troop E.
Authorities say the crash occurred around 4:42 p.m. when Dauzat, driving a 2009 Toyota Camry southbound, attempted to cross both northbound lanes to access a service road. In doing so, the Camry entered the path of a northbound 1993 Chevrolet Caprice, resulting in a collision.
Dauzat sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Troopers have not confirmed whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Caprice, who was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and are pending analysis.
The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police continue to remind drivers that distracted and inattentive driving is a leading cause of fatal collisions statewide.
“A single moment of distraction can lead to tragic consequences,” said LSP officials. “Stay alert, stay focused, and drive responsibly.”
UrbanCast and involvedinitall.com extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Michael Dauzat Jr. Our thoughts and prayers are also with everyone affected by this tragic accident.
