Heavy Police Presence on Loblolly Lane Early Monday: Two Shot in Narcotics-Related Incident, Raises Questions About APD Communication

Alexandria, La. (7/14/2025) – Early Monday morning, residents of Loblolly Lane woke to a heavy law enforcement presence.

Witnesses described marked and unmarked Alexandria Police Department (APD) vehicles, tactical units, and paramedics converging in the area around 3:00 a.m. Some neighbors were told to remain indoors as officers conducted operations.

UrbanCast was notified of the activity at 3:50 a.m. and captured images around 4:40 a.m. showing multiple units leaving the scene. At that time, there were no official details released about the nature of the incident.

At 6:19 a.m., UrbanCast reached out directly to the chief of police requesting information about the operation and whether there was an ongoing threat to residents. The request was not acknowledged or answered.

It was not until 10:49 a.m. that APD issued a press release, nearly eight hours after the incident began. The release confirmed two people were shot in the 2700 block of Loblolly Lane during what they described as a narcotics-related transaction that escalated into violence. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, with one reported in critical condition.

Delays and Lack of Response

The delay and lack of response to direct inquiries reflect an ongoing issue with APD’s communication practices. In recent years, the department has faced criticism for its limited public information access, including not having a designated public information officer to provide timely updates during critical incidents.

In a city where violent crime and public safety concerns are growing, clear and prompt communication from law enforcement leadership is vital to building trust and keeping residents informed.

Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to contact the APD Detective Division at (318) 447-6416, APD Dispatch at (318) 441-6559, or email APDDetectives@cityofalex.com.
