Hammond, LA (7/12/2023) – The Hammond Police Department (HPD) reported a 13-year-old girl was shot and killed by a 14-year-old boy.
Dereon Reed, 13, was identified by family members.
On July 8, 2023, the Hammond Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Willow Street for a shooting that took place inside a residence.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined a 14-year-old accidentally shot a 13-year-old who succumbed to her injuries.
The 14-year-old was placed in the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center for negligent homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
