Greyhound Ends Alexandria Service Again Without Notice, Residents Left Stranded

Alexandria, LA (7/8/2025) – Greyhound Bus Lines has discontinued service to Alexandria for the second time in just over a year, this time without any advance notice to the public.

Passengers returning home reported being stranded in Lafayette, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge, forced to arrange their own transportation back to Alexandria.

A representative at the former Greyhound site on Upper Third Street confirmed the location opted not to renew its contract with Greyhound. All operations ended in mid-June 2025 near the intersection of North Third Street and U.S. 71.

This follows a similar disruption in 2024. As UrbanCast reported then, Greyhound temporarily halted service after losing access to its Alexandria stop due to a property ownership change. At the time, Greyhound Senior Manager Courtney Castaneda said the company was “working closely with the City of Alexandria to find a new location.” Service resumed later that year but has now been terminated again.

In Richmond Virginia

In Richmond, Virginia, a potential Greyhound service interruption was handled differently. The issue went first to a public land use committee and then to the full City Council. In an open vote, council members approved moving Greyhound operations to a local transit hub, ensuring continued service for residents. (See: ABC8NEWS)

The loss of Greyhound service comes as Alexandria residents are also adjusting to the recent closures of Blue Cliff College and Rapides Regional Urgent Care clinics. Together, these developments reflect a series of essential services that have disappeared in Alexandria in a short period, with no public updates provided by local leadership.

UrbanCast has reached out to city officials numerous times over the past year on other issues impacting residents. Those requests for information have gone unanswered.

According to Greyhound’s website, the nearest active stops are now in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Ruston, each over 75 miles away.

UrbanCast will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available.
