Greyhound Discontinues Service to Alexandria: Community Left in the Dark

Alexandria, LA (May 22, 2024) – Residents of Alexandria, Louisiana, were taken by surprise recently when Greyhound Bus Line abruptly discontinued its service to the city. This unexpected change left many in the community without a vital transportation option, sparking widespread concern and frustration.

The discontinuation was first noticed by passengers who arrived at the usual bus stop only to find no Greyhound buses available. With no prior announcement or communication from Greyhound, the sudden halt in service caught many off guard.

In response to numerous inquiries from the community, UrbanCast/involvedinitall.com reached out to Greyhound for an explanation. We sought to understand the rationale behind the discontinuation and the lack of communication to customers.

Greyhound responded promptly with the following statement:

“After a recent change in ownership of our Alexandria stop, the owner immediately terminated our contract to use the location. We are now working closely with the City of Alexandria to find a new location, so we can return to serving the community as quickly as possible.”

This response from Greyhound, provided by Senior Manager of Communication and Events, Courtney Castaneda, clarified that the termination was due to circumstances beyond their control. The company is actively seeking a new location to resume service in Alexandria.

The closest Greyhound Bus location is Opelousas, Louisiana, which is approximately 67 miles away.

Despite reaching out to the City of Alexandria for further comment and updates on the situation, we have yet to receive a response. The lack of communication from city officials only adds to the community’s frustration.

The Greyhound bus service has been a crucial transportation link for many residents, providing affordable and reliable travel options. The sudden discontinuation of this service underscores the need for better communication and planning to ensure such essential services remain uninterrupted.

As Greyhound works towards finding a new stop in Alexandria, the community is left hoping for a swift resolution to restore this important transportation route.

We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
