Alexandria, LA (April 4, 2024) – The newly appointed chairman of the Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority (GAEDA) has called for a special meeting on Friday, April 5th, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting, to be held at The Hotel Bentley in the Bayou Roberts Room, will address crucial matters, with a primary focus on rescinding and declaring void all actions taken at the previous meeting on February 19, 2024.
At the February 19th meeting, the board passed a motion to approve the Compensation Package and Contract for the Executive Director, Angela Varnado unanimously. However, concerns have arisen regarding the meeting’s compliance with Louisiana’s Open Meetings Law, La. Rev. Stat. 42:11 et. seq. Due to alleged improper notice of the meeting, the board seeks to nullify the actions taken during that session.
In addition to this critical agenda item, the meeting will also consider other important matters, including approval of Cooperative Endeavor Agreements with external organizations. These agreements entail financial support for events such as the Louisiana Beauticians & Barbers Association’s 77th Conference, Trade Show & Education, and the SkillsUSA Louisiana Leadership and Skills Conference.
