Friday’s Weather (1/20/2023)

Winds will be breezy at times out of the NE, with increasing clouds and showers by late afternoon or early evening. Low pressure will develop in the western gulf, move through the offshore waters, and eventually onshore in SE LA from Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Expect widespread showers and areas of rain with embedded scattered thunderstorms. While winds/shear profiles will be quite strong, meager instability will limit organized updraft potential. This will negate any severe weather threat; however, given the higher PWATs around 1.3″, localized excessive rainfall is a possibility.

Saturday night into Sunday morning, the SFC low will continue to track east/northeast inland. At the same time, an upper-level trof moves from the central plains into the Great Lakes, dragging a frontal boundary from west to east across the region. This will also help with additional lift for more showers/storms, especially across central LA early Sunday morning.

By Sunday morning, most of the showers activity will have ended. There could be some lingering showers across Acadiana until around noon, but then it should improve the rest of the afternoon.

Temps will not change much from Friday through Sunday, with highs generally in the 50s to near 60 degrees. Overnight lows will be in the 40s, except Monday morning. Monday morning could see temps dip into the lower to middle 30s across central LA and upper 30s to around 40 degrees from I10 south to the coast.
