Fort Carson Soldier Dies in Training Accident at Fort Johnson (JRTC)

FORT JOHNSON, LA (5/12/2024) — A tragic incident has struck the U.S. Army community as a Soldier assigned to the 749th Ordnance Company, 242nd Explosive Ordnance Battalion (EOD), 71st EOD Group stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. has lost their life in a non-combat related training accident at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC).

The soldier’s identity is being withheld until 24 hours after next-of-kin notification, in accordance with military protocol.

Maj. Gen. David W. Gardner, the commanding general of JRTC and Fort Johson, expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Soldier’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
