State: Former Educator Arrested on Sex Crimes Charges in Hammond

Hammond, LA (March 12, 2024) – The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) made an arrest in connection with multiple sex crimes. 26-year-old Cameron McKnight of Hammond has been taken into custody.

According to Sheriff Daniel Edwards, the investigation began on February 27, 2024, when the TPSO received a complaint alleging indecent behavior involving a former high school educator and students.

The complaint detailed interactions where McKnight, identified as a substitute teacher and part-time athletic coach, reportedly engaged in inappropriate discussions with students, boasting about his “body count,” a term referring to his previous sexual encounters.

Following the initial investigation, detectives were able to validate the allegations, leading to the issuance of a warrant for McKnight’s arrest.

McKnight now faces charges including one count of indecent behavior with juveniles and one count of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.

It’s worth noting that at the time of the complaint, McKnight was no longer employed at any school within Tangipahoa Parish.

Sheriff Edwards has urged anyone with additional information regarding McKnight’s interactions with students or related incidents to come forward. Detective Henry DeJean can be reached at 985-902-2099.

Alternatively, individuals wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-554-5245 or visiting www.tangicrimestoppers.com to submit tips anonymously. Informants may be eligible for a cash reward.

Given the sensitive nature of the investigation involving juveniles, Sheriff Edwards assured the public that any further developments will be shared as they become available.
