Flood Watch: Where to Get Sandbags as Heavy Rainfall Approaches

Flood Watch Issued as Heavy Rainfall Expected

A flood watch remains in effect through Friday afternoon for various parishes and counties across Louisiana. These include Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Evangeline, Lafayette, and many others. The watch covers northern Acadia, northern Calcasieu, northern Jefferson Davis, Rapides, southern Acadia, and numerous other areas. It also extends to St. Landry, upper St. Martin, upper Vermilion, Vernon, Bienville, Caldwell, De Soto, and Grant parishes. In addition, it encompasses Jackson, La Salle, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Red River, Sabine, Winn, and several counties such as Hardin, lower Jefferson, and northern Jasper. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant.

Details of the Watch:

  • What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
  • Where: Portions of Louisiana, including multiple parishes and counties.
  • When: Through Friday afternoon.
  • Impacts: Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas. Flooding may also occur in urban areas with poor drainage.

Additional Details:

  • A storm system moving through the region is expected to bring widespread rainfall of 2 to 6 inches, with localized amounts up to 12 inches. This heavy rainfall will fall on already saturated soils and may lead to flooding.
