Pineville, LA (May 24, 2024) — A tragic incident occurred early this morning when a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on US 165, just near the city limits of Ball, Louisiana.
The Pineville Police Department (PPD) responded to the call at approximately 12:12 AM. Officers arrived to find Heather Lynn Basco, 36, of Ball, LA, who had been walking in the middle of the roadway. Ms. Basco was wearing dark clothing, which contributed to her being difficult to see in the low-light conditions.
Despite immediate efforts from first responders, Ms. Basco unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The driver involved in the incident stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver.
In light of this tragic event, the PPD has extended their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Heather Lynn Basco. They also urge pedestrians to exercise caution by wearing visible clothing when walking at night and remind drivers to remain vigilant, especially in low-light conditions.
