Alexandria, La. (8/4/2025) – The man killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon on Chester Street has been identified by his mother as 44-year-old Jermaine Simon.
According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), detectives with the Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Alexandria Police Department (APD) to investigate the incident, which occurred near Rapides Avenue on September 3, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m.
LSP’s preliminary findings indicate that an APD officer was responding to a disturbance call when he encountered an individual matching the description provided by the complainant. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the individual allegedly opened fire. The officer returned fire, striking Simon.
Following the exchange, officers administered medical aid until EMS arrived. Simon was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Louisiana State Police confirmed they are the lead investigating agency. The case remains under review, with further updates to be released in coordination with the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office.
