Extreme Thursday Weather (12/23/2022)

*** HARD FREEZE WARNING ***

A polar airmass invaded the region last night and will linger into the Christmas weekend. This airmass will be bitterly cold, with low temperatures in the teens to lower the 20s for a prolonged period. This will create hard freeze conditions. Individuals are encouraged to complete preparations to protect the 4 Ps: People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes!

The winds will be brisk, with northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts between 30 and 40 mph.

This morning, cold temperatures and brisk northerly winds will bottom at around -3 to 12 degrees in the early morning. A wind chill advisory is in effect for this time period. Stay indoors or dress appropriately to avoid hypothermia and/or frostbite.

Later today, expect brisk north winds to continue bringing an arctic air mass into the region. High temperatures will struggle to reach freezing and be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. North winds 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts will keep wind chills in the teens and lower the 20s.
