Alexandria, La. (3/13/2026) – The Alexandria baby death investigation led to an arrest after police charged a man with second-degree murder following the death of a four-year-old child.
The Alexandria Police Department responded Sunday, March 8, 2026, to the 6100 block of North Bolton Avenue. Officers received a call regarding an unresponsive four-year-old child.
Emergency responders transported the child to a local hospital. However, the child later passed away.
In the days that followed, investigators requested a forensic autopsy. The examination revealed significant trauma to the child.
As a result, detectives gathered evidence and obtained a warrant for 32-year-old Donald Garrett Jr.
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, officers arrested Garrett after a traffic stop and foot pursuit. Authorities then charged him with one count of second-degree murder.
Additionally, Garrett faces other charges related to the traffic stop. Officials have not yet released further details regarding those charges.
Meanwhile, detectives continue to investigate the Alexandria baby death investigation. Authorities say the case remains active.
