Washington, DC (2/1/2025) – DJ’s Boudain recall impacts 17,720 pounds of boudain sausage due to possible contamination with foreign materials, specifically pen fragments.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on January 31, 2025.
The affected fresh and frozen boudain sausage links were produced on January 23, 2025. They bear establishment number “EST. 13246” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These products were distributed to retailers, restaurants, and distributors in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
A consumer discovered a pen fragment while eating the Original Boudain sausage, prompting the recall. One reported oral injury is linked to the product, but no further illnesses or injuries have been confirmed. Consumers concerned about injuries should consult a healthcare provider.
FSIS warns that some affected products may still be in consumers’ or businesses’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers should not eat the recalled products, and restaurants should not serve them. Instead, they should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure DJ’s Boudain properly informs its customers and removes the recalled products. When available, a retail distribution list will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
For recall-related inquiries, consumers and media can contact Jonathan Wallace, Vice President of Operations at DJ’s Boudain, LLC, at 409-842-0558 ext. 111 or [email protected].
For food safety concerns, consumers can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or report issues online at foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov.
