Baton Rouge, LA (8/18/2024) – The Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted a civic engagement event yesterday at Baton Rouge Community College.
The event, centered on civic engagement, attracted community members and candidates for the upcoming fall elections. Partnering with over 15 women-led organizations, the chapter facilitated a panel discussion focused on how citizens can drive change within their communities.
The event provided a platform for voters to interact with candidates running for Mayor-President of Baton Rouge and U.S. Representative of the 6th Congressional District. The newly redrawn 6th District now stretches from East Baton Rouge to Alexandria, and Shreveport. Also included in the new district are cities like Lafayette, Marksville, and Natchitoches.
Two of the five candidates for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District participated: Quentin Anthony Anderson and Peter Williams. Both shared their visions for the district, emphasizing the importance of community involvement. Unfortunately, Cleo Fields, Democrat; Elbert Guillory, Republican; and Wilken Jones Jr., Democrat did not attend.
Involvedinitall.com obtained closing remarks from Anderson and Williams, which are available on our YouTube channel. Viewers are encouraged to subscribe for more content. However, we could not secure video footage for the entire forum.
The Delta Sigma Theta Baton Rouge event reflects the sorority’s national commitment to civic engagement and social action. This event underscores their dedication to empowering communities through informed voting and active political participation.
