Alexandria, LA (04/15/2024) – Tragedy struck on Sunday, April 14, 2024 night as a fatal collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the 500 block of MacArthur Drive, prompting a swift response from the Alexandria Police Department (APD).
At approximately 9:45 PM, authorities rushed to the scene of the single-vehicle crash, where 56-year-old Jeannie Austin of Alexandria, LA, was struck while attempting to cross the northbound travel lane of MacArthur Drive.
Despite efforts by emergency responders from the Alexandria Fire Department and an ambulance service on the scene, Ms. Austin succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Rapides Parish Coroner at 10:00 PM.
As the investigation unfolds, toxicology tests were conducted on the driver of the vehicle involved in the tragic incident.
The APD has released a statement confirming that the investigation is ongoing, emphasizing the need for community cooperation to gather pertinent information.
