Alexandria, La. (11/4/2025) – Gunfire erupted in broad daylight Monday afternoon in one of Alexandria’s most populated neighborhoods, leaving residents shaken and demanding answers.
At approximately 12:40 PM, the Alexandria Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of Daspit Street. According to police, occupants of one vehicle opened fire on another before both fled the area.
No injuries were reported; however, according residents of Daspit Street at least one home was damaged by gunfire. Several residents said they feared for their lives as bullets rang out.
One man told UrbanCast he was outside retrieving items from his vehicle when the gunfire began. He immediately ran inside to take cover. Another resident said the shots were so close that they checked on family members but have avoided leaving the house since.
“It happens all the time,” another resident said. “Nothing is being done to stop it.”
Shortly after the shooting, police located one of the vehicles believed to be involved and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled, leading to a brief pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into two others near MacArthur Drive and Elliott Street, close to Raising Cane’s.
Four people were detained at the scene.
Around 4:30 PM, officers were seen canvassing North MacArthur Drive, from Swamp Daddy’s to McDonald’s, collecting potential evidence near Regions Bank.
Authorities say the investigation remains active and are asking for public assistance.
