Alexandria, LA (7/19/2025) – Drivers on U.S. Hwy 71/165 near the Third Street intersection witnessed a frightening scene today as gunfire broke out on the heavily traveled roadway connecting Alexandria and Pineville.
Alexandria Police Department and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office responded after reports of shots fired. Witnesses said at least two individuals were handcuffed and placed into APD units during the response.
A witness commented on a previous UrbanCast post, saying they were in a vehicle directly behind the suspect when he exited his truck, argued with another driver on the roadside, and fired five shots into the air. According to the witness, APD officers quickly blocked traffic, drew rifles, and detained the suspect.
RPSO confirmed their deputies assisted APD at the scene. UrbanCast has requested details from APD but has not yet received an official statement.
This is the third reported daylight gunfire incident in Alexandria this month.
