ALEXANDRIA, La. (10/19/2025) – Last night, the Lagniappe Theatre was filled with the sounds of Neo-soul and a powerful, personal message as DavidMichaelMusiq presented “The Message. The Ministry. The Musiq.” to a local audience.
The event, held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, offered the community a unique window into the heart of David Michael Williams, the artist and “everyday person.” While many know him in his professional capacity as Judge of the Louisiana 9th Judicial District Court, this night was not about his official role. Instead, it was an intimate evening dedicated to his personal passion: sharing a message of faith through his “Musiq.”
The performance was a unique blend of live music and heartfelt ministry. The chosen genre, Neo-soul, fuses contemporary R&B with the classic instrumentation and lyrical depth of ’70s soul and jazz, providing a smooth, expressive backdrop for the event’s themes.
The Goal
The goal, as DavidMichael explained in a post-performance interview with UrbanCast, was simple and profound. “I’m just hoping that the love of Christ just infused somebody to bring and draw them closer to God. That’s it. That’s the goal,” he said.
The “Message” component of the night was highlighted in a candid conversation with Chris Maxwell, Assistant District Attorney for Rapides Parish. The two discussed the challenges of faith, moving beyond “checking boxes” or performative Christianity. Maxwell emphasized the importance of focusing on “whatsoever things are lovely… just… and have a good report,” noting that a true Christian life “is a life lived in absolute pursuit of Christ.”
This personal and vulnerable pursuit was the centerpiece of Michael’s “Musiq.” He introduced his song “Out of this World” by explaining his own struggles with being “triggered by words on social media” and getting caught in worldly “disputes.” He referenced the parable of the sower, warning the audience against the “thorns,” the “cares of this world,” that can “choke the word.”
The Performance
The performance’s most direct challenge came with a song centered on the refrain, “I need to love my haters today.” Michael led the crowd in what he acknowledged was a difficult call to action.
“Start loving the people that’s talking about you and see what God does for your life,” he declared from the stage. “The ones you know don’t mean you any right. Love those and watch what God does in your life.”
Presented by Heart of Louisiana Series, the event, which featured a charcuterie and fruit bar by SWEET LATTE, was a resounding success. It provided Central Louisiana with a powerful glimpse into the heart of DavidMichael, not as a public official, but as an artist and a man of faith sharing his personal ministry.
