ALEXANDRIA, La. (12/1/2024) – The Alexandria Fire Department responded quickly to a structure fire on Culpepper Drive, highlighting the importance of fire prevention.
At approximately 1:23 PM, the fire department and Rapides Fire District #2 were dispatched to 2504 Culpepper Drive after reports of a fire.
First responders arrived within four minutes and brought the fire under control in just fourteen minutes. Despite their swift action, two adults sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The fire, which started due to an electrical failure within an electronic device, was determined to be accidental.
AFD sent three engine companies, an aerial company, a medical unit, a chief unit, and a fire investigator to the scene. Their coordinated response prevented further damage and underscored the importance of fire safety in homes.
To prevent similar tragedies, the State Fire Marshal’s Office offers families free smoke alarms and installations through its Operation Save-A-Life program. State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan J. Adams urges families to take advantage of this life-saving initiative. “Smoke alarms save lives,” Chief Adams emphasized.
Families in need of a smoke alarm can visit lasfm.org to register. Once registered, an SFM deputy or a local fire department team will install the alarms at no cost. This simple step can make a significant difference in protecting lives and property during a fire emergency.
The Culpepper Drive fire serves as a reminder of the critical role fire prevention measures play. Take proactive steps today to protect your home and loved ones. For more information on the Operation Save-A-Life program, visit lasfm.org and make your home safer.
