Counterfeit Adderall Laced with Fentanyl Seized in Traffic Stop Near Infant

A routine traffic stop for a brake light violation turned into a troubling discovery for Covington Police, as officers recovered over 100 grams of deadly Fentanyl disguised as Adderall pills, just feet away from a 1-year-old infant.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, shortly before 9 am, a Covington Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Altima for a violation on Taylor Street near 26th Avenue. During the stop, the officer observed a large bag containing what appeared to be over 200 Adderall pills within arm’s reach of a 1-year-old child. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the Adderall pills were counterfeit and tested positive for containing Fentanyl, a potent opioid responsible for countless overdose deaths.

The driver of the Altima, identified as Jacqueline Davenport, 30, was promptly arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including possession with intent to distribute Schedule II substances (112 grams of Fentanyl), possession of Schedule I substances (Marijuana), false representation of a controlled dangerous substance, and controlled dangerous substances in the presence of persons under 17.

Additionally, Davenport was arrested on a Failure to Appear warrant issued by the 22nd Judicial District Court before being transported to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.

Chief Michael Ferrell of the Covington Police emphasized the dangers of consuming unprescribed medication, especially when it is obtained illegally. “If you’re taking a pill that your doctor didn’t prescribe, you can’t be certain what you are consuming,” stated Chief Ferrell. “I am certainly proud of our officers’ diligent work putting away individuals who peddle this poison within our community.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with counterfeit drugs and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts in combating drug trafficking.

Chief Ferrell also highlighted the crucial role of public cooperation in identifying suspects involved in criminal or suspicious activities, encouraging residents to utilize CPD’s online reporting system available at CPD Tips.
