BALL, La. (3/6/2026) — The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in a Ball Louisiana homicide that occurred Thursday morning.
An investigator with the Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that Renina Simmons, 51, was pronounced deceased at 11:04 a.m. on March 5, 2026. The incident occurred at 5831 Monroe Highway in Ball, Louisiana. Authorities have classified her death as a homicide. However, investigators say further investigation and an autopsy remain pending.
Earlier, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that the Ball Police Department requested assistance around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Deputies, detectives, and the Crime Scene Unit responded to a shooting at a local gas station along U.S. Highway 165.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials continue searching for a suspect connected to the Ball Louisiana homicide. Authorities have identified that suspect as Shamond Lamar Sanders, 39.
Investigators say Sanders stands approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 220 pounds. Officials describe him as a Black male who is bald.
Additionally, authorities believe Sanders may be traveling in a dark gray 2023 Nissan Altima bearing Louisiana license plate 990JGZ.
Police warn that Sanders should be considered armed and dangerous. Therefore, officials urge the public not to approach him.
Instead, anyone with information about Sanders’ whereabouts should immediately contact the Ball Police Department at 318-640-4747. Residents may also contact the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-473-6700.
Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 318-443-7867. Officials say even small details could help investigators move the case forward.
Meanwhile, the Ball Police Department reports that officers and detectives worked throughout the night processing evidence and following up on leads. Investigators say they have received one or two leads so far. However, those leads have not produced significant information.
Even so, authorities say the investigation remains active. Law enforcement agencies across Rapides Parish continue working to locate the suspect and gather additional evidence.
Ultimately, officials say their primary goal is to bring justice for the victim and provide closure for the grieving family.
