Cancellation of Alexandria MLK Day Parade: (Safety due to Adverse Weather)

Alexandria, LA (1/14/2024) – According to the Rev. Larry Turner, General Chairman of the City-wide Interdenominational Revival Committee, the committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the annual MLK Day parade in Alexandria. This decision comes in response to the forecast of extreme cold and the potential for wintry precipitation, posing risks to participants and spectators alike.

Despite the cancellation of the parade, the Committee remains committed to honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. The annual Prayer Breakfast, scheduled for 6:30 AM, and the Noon Day Service will proceed as planned. These events provide opportunities for the community to come together in reflection and unity.

It is important to note that the parade will not be rescheduled. The primary focus of the Committee is on prioritizing the safety and well-being of everyone involved. The decision reflects a responsible approach to adverse weather conditions, ensuring that attendees can participate in the scheduled indoor events without unnecessary risks.

As we commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Rev. Turner and the Committee encourages residents to join in the Prayer Breakfast and Noon Day Service to reflect on the significance of this day and the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.

While the parade may be postponed, the spirit of unity and community engagement should remain unwavering in Alexandria.
