Boyce, LA (7/21/2023) – Boyce Police Department reported convicted felon was arrested during a traffic stop.
On Thursday 07/20/2023, at about 7:15 pm on Highway 1 South in Boyce, a Boyce Police officer witnessed a white Mustang swerving over the center line and leaving the highway twice. The officers activated their emergency blue lights. The vehicle finally stopped about one hundred feet from the beginning of the turning on of the lights.
Once stopped, the driver through an item out of the passenger side window. The officer gave the driver multiple commands to exit the vehicle. After about the fifth command to exit the vehicle, the driver, Javarius Battles, male, age 27, exited the vehicle. Mr. Battles was placed in handcuffed and detained for investigation.
Additional officers arrived and discovered a handgun with serial numbers filed off. Officers also recorded a green leafy substance wrapped in cigar paper on the driver’s side seat. Officers conducted a criminal history check on Mr. Battles and discovered he was a convicted felon on probation with a probation warrant.
Mr. Battles was arrested and charged with careless operation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of justice, possession of or dealing in firearms with an obliterated number, simple possession of CDSI, and a warrant from Louisiana Probation and Parole. Mr. Battles was taken to DC-1 for booking.
