Simmesport, LA (12/27/2024) – A body found by the railroad tracks in Simmesport, Louisiana on Friday, December 27, 2024, has sparked an ongoing investigation.
At approximately 9:05 a.m., the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center received a report about the discovery.
The Simmesport Police Chief requested assistance from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO). Detectives from APSO arrived and identified the deceased as 31-year-old Alton Lee Jones Jr., a resident of Simmesport.
Authorities, including APSO Detectives, the Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office, and the Canadian Pacific/Kansas City Southern (CPKC) Railway Police Department, are collaborating on the investigation. The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
